Conditions of Validity of Divorce in a Foreign Country in Turkey

In order for the divorce proceedings made in a foreign country to be valid in Turkey as well, the following conditions must be fulfilled:

1. The divorce must be legally valid in the country in which it is made.

2. The divorce process must have been done in a way that is appropriate in terms of the Turkish legal system.

3. The divorce process must have been made in a language appropriate to Turkish law.

4. There must be a Turkish translation of the divorce decision.

5. The divorce decision must be recognized by the Turkish diplomatic or consular authorities.

If these conditions are met, the divorce process made in a foreign country may also be valid in Turkey. However, in this case, additional procedures may be required for the parties who want to file a divorce suit in terms of the Turkish legal system.
